Obituary

Don was born on October 7, 1931 to Richard and Edith (Snedicor) Lumsden in Ithaca Michigan. He died March 3, 2022 at the age of 90.

In 1955, Don married Colleen Cole and had two sons, Kevin in 1957 and Scott in 1962. He is survived by Scott (Ann Marie) and his grandchildren Adam (Courtney), Erica and Ryan, and his brother Walter.

Don married Donna Himmelspach in 2004 and is survived by her and his stepchildren, Bill (Sally) Himmelspach, Fran (Mark) Gofton, Danielle Ritchie and 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen and his son, Kevin, his brothers, Marshall, Richard, Norman and his sister Carole (Kelly) .

Don served honorably in the United States Marine Corp from 1951 to 1954. He was a dedicated lifelong member of the Marine Corp League, and a charter member of the Cpl. Stanley L Moore Detachment in 1970. He was a former Commandant of both the detachment and the State of Michigan Marine Corp League and served on multiple national committees and was the recipient of numerous distinguished service awards. He was passionate about veteran affairs and spend countless hours of service in support of Marine Corp League activities. Additionally, he was an active member of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs.

Don worked 38 years for Oakland County before retiring in 1993 as the Director of Accounting. In addition, he served on the Oakland County Employees Credit Union (now Vibe) board of directors since 1958 and was chairman for ten of those years. Don was an avid golfer and was a member of several Oakland County golf leagues over the years. He was also a lifelong member of the Elks.

Don will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband and father who enriched the lives of those around him – he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Funeral from Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 340 North Pontiac Trail Walled Lake (3 Blks. South of Maple Rd.) Monday, March 7, 2022 at 7:00 PM. Friends may visit Monday 3:00 PM until time of service.
